Sneak Peek: Santiago

sneak peek: Santiago

Fresh off spring break, we’ve got a serious case of summer fever. The sunshine, sandals and sunglasses have us wanting summer — and wanting it now. We still have a few weeks to go, but lucky for you, our newest pattern is launching this week! Arriving online and in stores on Thursday, April 6, Santiago is the pretty floral that will transition your wardrobe from spring to summer. A mix of teal, cream and shades of blue, our newest pattern features tropical foliage inspired by the climate and culture of Cuba.

Blue is undoubtedly one of our favorite colors since it goes with everything! With the neutral palette of Santiago, we think you can wear it with just about anything in your closet — brights, darks, pastels, shorts, dresses… you get the point. Our favorite way to wear it is with a bit of pattern play and a pop of color! Try pairing it with a striped tee and chambray shorts. Play up the color with some fun accessories — a fruity bag charm, tassel earrings and comfortable espadrilles. This look is perfect for busy weekend errands since the Hadley Satchel can be worn as either a handbag or a shoulder bag!

Annual Outlet Sale: A Guide to Fort Wayne

If you’re counting down the days until our Annual Outlet Sale (just twenty!), you’re not alone. This year’s Sale is going to be better than ever with an expanded selection of leather styles, rows upon rows of pattern favorites and a chance to meet our Co-founder, Barbara Bradley Baekgaard. You can learn more about our Sale here.

Fort Wayne

The Annual Outlet Sale is held in our hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Whether this is your first year joining us or you’re an out-of-town Sale veteran, it’s likely that you’re going to be spending a few days with us. Need some suggestions on how to fill your time outside of the Sale? No worries, we’ve got you! From where to eat and drink to where to shop and play, we compiled our favorite local hot spots for your shopping crew’s trip to Fort Wayne.

Where to Eat

Fort Wayne: Where to eat

This is hard to narrow down since there are so many great local eateries in Fort Wayne — but we managed to choose our top three picks. First is Fort Wayne’s Famous Coney Island. This is an absolute must if you find yourself downtown and in need of a quick meal. There’s a reason this local gem has been around for 100 years!

If you’re downtown and want a nice sit-down meal, Don Hall’s Gas House is an unrivaled favorite. With a menu ranging from sandwiches and wings to a juicy porterhouse and divine lobster tails, there is something for everyone at this Fort Wayne fave.

If you’re a die-hard planning to attend multiple sessions and need to slip out for a meal close to the Coliseum, Casa Ristoranti Italiano will be your go-to. Just steps away from the Sale, Casa gives you a taste of Italy with its expansive menu of pastas, soups, salads, sandwiches and so much more. We promise you won’t be disappointed.

Where to Drink

Fort Wayne: Where to drink

If the excitement of scoring the best deals hasn’t left you completely exhausted by the end of the day (share your secrets, please), you may be ready to hit the town. If your girls are looking for the best place to grab a drink, downtown is the way to go! From cocktails to craft beer, our local bars and breweries boast the libations and atmosphere to make your stop the most memorable of your trip (second to the Sale, of course).

If you’re a martini girl, you can’t go wrong with Club Soda or Main Street Bistro. With the best dessert martinis in town (according to our Social Media team), you’re bound to stay awhile to try a few kinds. As an added bonus, these two martini bars are about a block apart, so you’ll easily be able to try a drink at one, then walk over to the other.

If breweries are your jam, you’ll love Junk Ditch Brewing Company. Nestled in a quiet corner just off of downtown, this new bar and restaurant has quickly become a weekend hot spot. With both house and guest beer on tap, as well as a small wine selection, this is a great option for those who want a casual night out.

Where to Shop

Fort Wayne: Where to shop

Can’t get enough shopping? We feel you. After the Sale, swing by our full-line store at Jefferson Pointe. With multiple restaurants, department stores and specialty retailers, you can easily spend hours at this outdoor mall. If you’re attending the Sale on a ticketed day, present your ticket at our Jefferson Pointe store to receive 25% off your full-priced purchase! If local boutiques are your thing, stop by The Find downtown. With various brands of clothing, accessories, gifts and even S’Well bottles, you’re sure to find something you love.

Where to Indulge

Fort Wayne: Where to indulge

A mini vacay with your girlfriends means its time to treat yourself! Our long-running favorite place to snag a decadent dessert is local chocolatier DeBrand Fine Chocolates. Whether you’re yearning for a gelato sundae (we recommend the raspberry) or just want a few small truffles as a souvenir, you’re sure to be wowed by the luxurious experience and melt-in-your-mouth treats.

If your dessert habits are about going for the ‘gram, the new downtown ice cream parlor Yummi Bunni will not disappoint. Known for their classic ice cream sandwiched between two halves of a glazed donut (oh yes, you read that correctly), this trendy new hangout is almost guaranteed to have a line out the door. This is taking ‘treat yourself’ to an entirely new level.

Where to Entertain

Fort Wayne: Where to entertain

With your evenings and weekend wide open, you may want to pencil in a few activities outside of the Sale. If crafting and cocktails is your dream combination, Wine & Canvas will give you a night to remember. If you’re an evening shopper and have the morning and afternoon free, our Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is reopening for the season on Saturday, April 22! Don’t let the name fool you — this zoo is not just for the kiddos. Our zoo is actually one of the top ten in the nation and sets the bar in environmentally-friendly practices and global conservation! If you weren’t already convinced: you can feed the giraffes and get the perfect selfie in the process.

We’d love to see your adventures around Fort Wayne! Tag us on Instagram and don’t forget to hashtag! #verabradley #vbas17 #myfortwayne #dtfw

Haven’t gotten your tickets yet? There’s still time! Mark the dates in your calendar (April 19 – 23) and reserve your tickets now!

Top Travel Tricks You Need to KnowWith that spring break trip and a highly anticipated summer getaway around the corner, you’re in need of all the travel tips you can get. It’s not very often that your travels go off without a hitch, so any extra tricks and hacks you can incorporate during the packing process, the better. Don’t worry; you’re not alone — we feel the same way. After hours of packing and sitting on top of your luggage to get it zipped (because we’ve all been there), you’re often left thinking there has to be a better way. We decided to get the deets for a stress-free travel experience from fellow jetsetter and lifestyle blogger, Lauren of Fashionably Lo. This self-proclaimed over-packer and travel pro gave us the dish on her favorite luggage and her top three tricks to make your trip that much easier.

The Bag: Large Foldable Roller in Banana Leaves Fuchsia
“I love the bright and bold print of this bag — it makes finding your luggage at baggage claim super easy! I’m also a huge fan of the folding capability. It can slide right under my bed or behind the clothing rack for storage.”

The Trip: Hilton Head, South Carolina
“I took this luggage on a weekend getaway to Hilton Head, South Carolina. It was the perfect bag for a long weekend since I could fit all of my outfits (self-proclaimed over-packer here), shoes, accessories and toiletries . . . and even a few last minute outfit choices.”

Trick #1: Do the roll
“Learn the power of the roll! I roll up everything I pack into my suitcase so that I can fit as much as possible. As an over-packer, rolling up my clothing is super helpful in ensuring I can bring everything I want!”

Trick #2: Steam on the go
“Fun fact: once you roll up all of your clothing, almost nothing makes it out wrinkle-free! I always bring a portable mini steamer at all times to ensure I look put together on the go.”

Trick #3: Pre-pack it
“Keep a pre-packed bag of essentials in your luggage at all times. I’m notorious for forgetting the little things like toothpaste, Tylenol, etc. I now keep a small cosmetic bag full of the must-haves that I can just drop into my suitcase for any trip.”

Well, that was easy. We have a feeling that our summer travels will get so much easier. Are you going on a longer escape? See how we pack a carry-on for two weeks.

Summer Photo Shoot: Q&A With The Crew

We love looking into the lives of successful women, and our Summer 2017 photo shoot had several sources of inspiration. Since more than half of the photo shoot crew was comprised of women, we had to fire off a few questions to get a peek at what their lives are like on and off the set. From the head creative director to the main makeup artist, we loved getting a behind-the-scenes look at how a campaign comes together and the lessons they have learned.

behind the scenes

What is the one thing you always have to have in your bag?

“Always my phone first, and then my chap stick.  Those two things are a must.” – Joanne, Creative Director

“Moisturizer” – Christina, Makeup Artist

“Oh, before it was an iPod because I love listening to music, but now it’s an iPhone because it’s all in one. Sometimes I don’t even carry a camera anymore because I am happy snapping with an iPhone. Even me!” – Anne, Photographer

behind the scenes

What is your favorite part of your job?

“Meeting new people, getting to know people’s stories and putting it all together.  I love to make stuff and I love to make stuff with other people, so that community is really what gives me a lot of joy.” – Joanne, Creative Director

“Making women and men feel good about themselves. Making them feel a little bit more confident because they feel a little bit more beautiful or a little more groomed and that’s definitely my favorite part. It’s very intimate.” – Christina, Makeup Artist

“Meeting people! Another is that since I am like a location photographer, I am always outside. I love going to new places I’ve never been before.  I love traveling.  I love seeing new cultures and people.”” – Anne, Photographer

“The best part of my job is when the project is done and we had a great shoot. I just love that feeling when it’s a wrap and it all went great and we have what we needed.  It gives me a fuzzy feeling.” – Angelika, Executive Producer

behind the scenes

What has been your favorite photo shoot location?

“I’d have to say Old San Juan!  It’s the best place I’ve ever been.” – Joanne, Creative Director

“New Zealand.  I’m a very outdoorsy person and it had an epic landscape.  The people were so warm and inviting and interesting and it felt like I had space and it was just kind of magical.” – Evyan, Stylist

“The best place ever is probably Mongolia and my other absolute favorite place is Tahiti.” – Anne, Photographer

“New York—and Tahiti.” – Angelika, Executive Producer

behind the scenes

What should every woman try at least once in her life?

“Doing something that really really scares you.  And doing it with your whole heart.” – Joanne, Creative Director

“I think you should try to get out of your normal life and go to a place you’ve never been.  Do something you’ve never done.  It doesn’t matter if it’s skydiving or walking to the next town because you’ve never been there.” – Anne, Photographer

“Just do what you want to do and don’t have anyone tell you any different.  And never, ever give up your career just because you’re married or having children.  There is no reason you can’t do everything.”  – Angelika, Executive Producer

Destination Diaries: Allison

If you’ve been diligently planning your tropical vacay but are at a loss for what to bring, we’ve got your back. Our Associate Art Director, Allison, got to take the trip of a lifetime for our Summer 2017 photo shoot. She’s dishing on what she did, and brought, for her island adventures.

Destination Diaries: Allison

I had such a great trip to  Puerto Rico , where I  helped work on the Summer 2017 photo shoot.  I brought my  Mallory Tote on the plane and carried everything else in a  Small Hardside Spinner .

My Bucket List included  exploring Old San Juan, Palomino Island and enjoying the beautiful sunsets,  which called for a  Straw Beach Tote

This season I am all about  Turquoise Sea , which makes me think of  the beaches in Puerto Rico . This look is destined for adventure!
