No babies, but I bought it for travel My family is well past the baby years... we're all potty trained, can eat big people food, and don't need the 5 million things that babies need. I purposefully purchased this bag anyway and it's perfect. (This bag would be perfect for it's intended use too... as a diaper bag.) I bought this baby backpack because we travel a lot. We are not fair weather travelers. We are out of the hotel room at dawn and back at dusk travelers. We are like mailmen and neither rain, nor sleet, nor heat is cause to stay in. I have always used my cloth VB bookbag (an older style that I don't believe they make anymore), which is an inch or two smaller in every dimension than this bag. In that smaller bag, I've been able to carry our five umbrellas, snacks for five people, my youngest's mid-size stuffed animal, two water bottles, our video camera, my wallet, phone, and personal items, a light sweater, and any small purchases along the way. Clearly, as the baby bag is bigger, I'll be able to carry more. Even though VB has other backpacks in similar dimensions to the baby backpack, I chose this baby bag instead because it is vinyl lined. The entire exterior is the fabric like most VB bags, but that interior has a nice thick, yet not stiff laminated lining. It is obviously a little more stiff than the pure cloth only bags, but not much. That vinyl lining is huge for me. Last year we went on a trip where it rained cats and dogs every single day. Even though I used ziplock bags, I could not keep my cloth backpack from taking on dampness. Everything in it was damp, from the sweaters to the plastic bag that held the electronics. I feel that the vinyl lining in this bag will make it so much better if we're ever in that type of travel situation again. Just an extra layer of protection against the elements. Further, my kids are potty trained, but even grade school kids can have an occasional night accident. I put down a washable pad under the fitted sheet of their bed just in case (disposable pads make them sweat). I think this changing pad would work nicely for that as the top is terry cloth lined and it has a thin vinyl backing. Lastly, zappos has better photos of the bag and even a video showing a person opening the compartments. It helped me get a better idea and as I was using the bag for something other than a diaper bag, I needed to see all those pockets, etc. February 19, 2014
Great Diaper Bag I have 2 other Vera diaper bags and I love both of them. So when I saw that they were going to have a Backpack diaper bag I knew it would be awesome. All moms know that it is a benefit to have your hands free when walking into the grocery store or shopping while trying to hold a fussy baby! So a backpack is the perfect answer! I love the padded backpack straps; the plastic lining is wonderful for spills; and it has a separate changing pad on the outside front that zips open so your baby can lay on a clean surface while changing in public places. It has two nice sized side pockets for my water bottle and a sippy cup. It's definitely worth the price! January 16, 2014
Hands free = Hassle free When I saw that Vera was coming out with a backpack diaper bag I was so excited. First and foremost I wanted something that would be hands and shoulder free. Nothing like trying to lug two car seats to the car and a shoulder diaper bag comes right off the shoulder. So lets go through the other pros of this bag. I love the two outside bottle holders and the front slip pocket. I really love the diaper changing station built into the bag. It unzips all the way and there is a changing pad there and the two pockets are perfect for diapers and wipes. That is genius! Since its a backpack its sits upright on the changing station and the unfolded flap is a little extra cushion for the baby. In the main compartment I love the 4 mesh pockets along the back. One pocket for my stuff and three left over for the baby stuff. Today I did a quick run to the store and was able to put my bag of groceries in the main compartment. Also the backpack slides nicely into the stroller basket and remains standing up straight so its easy to grab back out. Also all the insides are coated plastic for wiping ease. The cons... I really wish they had made a zip pocket on the back for my wallet, instead of having to put into the main compartment. I also wish they had put two more bottle holders along the sides in the inside main compartment as well. Overall this bag has the quality of a Vera along with making it a lot easier to be out and about with my twins. March 28, 2013
