Great size but needs a zipper
This bag is a perfect size for either pool or beach. It fits a couple of large towels, lotion, book, paddle ball set, etc. All things that you and your kids may need. You can fit everything you need for a day. However, it needs a top zipper to keep stuff from spilling out. So keep that in mind. It is basically same size as Carry it All which has a zipper -- but personally, I think that it is a much nicer and simpler design. I am actually considering sewing a zipper in.....

Almost Perfect
Yes, it is 24 inches from end to end, on the top, but, once you put things in there it really is not that overwhelming at all. I actually use mine at times as a market bag, such as when I go to Costco or when I know I need to get a few items at the super market. It works great this way. If I need it as a overnight or weekend bag, then, yes, one or 2 more large and deep pockets and a closure will definitely help. I did improvise and sew in strips of ribbons to tie the top up if I need the top to not be totally open, and it works great. So, all and all, a great bag, will definitely recommend it !

Fabulous bag!
I love this bag! I have used it on many weekend trips and have been able to pack everything I need into one bag. There are other Vera bags that have interior pockets, but this one is perfect because it has enough room to pack all the little pouches and small bags I need to carry with me for the various tasks I have. No pockets getting in the way - just wide open roominess! I can pack clothes for 3 days, shoes, makeup and toiletry bags, travel first aid kit, and a jacket finishing out the top (I like that it doesn't zip or close on top as well). I don't have to dig through pockets to get to what I need. Love it!

Huge tote, great for a day at the beach!
I got this tote in Night and Day and I love it! The bag is super large, but still light weight! I used it on a recent cruise and was able to hold the entire family's carry on items. Including, swimwear for 4, flip flops, sun glasses, travel paperwork, hanging organizer, sunscreen, visors, and many other items I knew we would need before our luggage arrived. I continued to use it throughout our trip to hold towels and change of clothes for everyone at each of our ports of call so that we wouldn't have to return to the boat to change. It never became too heavy or cumbersome! Love this tote!

this bag is amazing for a day around the shops and for keeping an extra jacket and the essentials . i bought one for my daughter and she uses it for school.

Great beach tote
I just got back from Mexico and took the Grand Tote as my beach bag. I took out the cardboard at the bottom and folded it up small in my carry-on bag. Lots of room for towels, sunscreen, books, water bottle etc. It actually worked well since there's no zippers or outside pockets, only one inside pocket which was handy to protect my cell phone. I just shook the sand out and now that I'm home I'll throw it in the washer and air dry it. We went into town one day and I wore white capris and a tangerine top that went with my Folkloric bag. I felt stylish. Also, I did a load of laundry at one point and it was perfect for that too - enough room for lots of folded clothes. I wouldn't use the Grand Tote for every day, as it's big and my other totes are great, but this one is perfect for travel, sports, laundry, etc. and in that regard the simplicity works really well. I'll use it again in the summer at the pool.

Misleading measurement info
This bag is HUGE and its real dimensions are not reflected correctly in the description. Now I am very hesitant to buy anything from this website.
Instead of going through a return hassle, I gave the bag to a 6' tall girlfriend. It really looked ridiculous on my 5'3" frame.
Quality was good, though.

Size listed is incorret
This is a very nice bag but it isn't 17.5 inches wide, it is 23 inches wide. The other two measurements are accurate. If you are looking for a big tote, this will fit the bill. If you are looking for one that matches the listed measurements, look elsewhere.

pretty sweet tote
Bought this in the jazzy blooms (only 'cause I LOVE the pattern and 'cause I needed a tote#. Chose this tote since we go away a lot with hockey and it is big enough to carry all of the bath stuff and then big enough for snacks and drinks for the boy. I also use this tote for work... this bag is HUGE! #you might be able to carry a small child in there). This bag as many, many uses.
However, if you are in need of pockets...this is NOT the bag for ya =)
