sent from heaven
This bag is actually my best friend. No joke. It is the single most useful thing since the medium cosmetic.
First off- the size. THIS IS NOT A BOOK BAG! If that is what you are looking for, do NOT get this. But for a purse backpack, this is PERFECT! It fits a surprising amount. For example, at theater conferences, it holds
1. Dance clothes (yoga pants, tee shirt, ballet flats)
2. full sized water bottle
3. iPhone, charger, and buttery pack
4. several granola bars
5. lots of random purseish things (lipstick, lotion, small notebook, etc)
When in use as a ballet bag, it holds
1. pointe shoes
3. hair stuff
5. leotard and tights
It also fits a macbook air (11 inch) in the main pocket but does not have any padding, so I wrap mine in a pair of PJ pants or something before tossing it in.
quality- I've had mine for a year and it looks brand new. I've washed it twice and it doesn't show it all.
Other- it is easy to carry. VERY easy to carry, actually. overall, just... perfect. Love it.

Perfect but quickly falls apart
I love, Love, LOVE this backpack, the size, shape, everything! Even the pockets are placed and sized perfectly. The backpack easily accommodates all of my "must carry" essentials including matching cosmetic bag, full size wallet and much more) in a neat and orderly fashion and I can ALSO fit my MacBook Air at the same time! That's the good news. The bad news is with daily use the fabric wears out extremely quickly, literately falling apart after mere months of light/easy use. I don't know if this is common with all VB fabric bags or if my bag is defective. Very disappointing, especially for the price.

Wonderful backpack purse for commuter
I love this backpack for its ability to act like a purse and carry like a backpack when I need it. Walking the several blocks from the bus stop to my building is much nicer when my hands are free, especially in icky weather. It holds my essentials without allowing me to carry too much stuff, and the padded pocket for the iPad is particularly nice.
I purchased this in Baroque and Indigo Pop for myself, and the older style with the smaller front pocket for my mother in Doodle Daisy. Things I love about this bag include its size, shape, overall look, light weight, pocket for tablet, ability to wear as a backpack, top handle, and back zippered pocket. Things I think would improve this exponentially: a double bi-directional zipper instead of the single uni-directional one, improve the two outside pockets (one maybe bigger, with an elasticized top to hold a water/baby bottle, longer on one side to hold an umbrella), shorten the interior slip pockets (they're really deep), deepen the base of the bag a bit to give it more stability, and add metal D-rings for hooking keys, lanyard, carabiner, etc on. I will probably sew in a couple rings myself, since I really think they're handy with a bag of this style. I find that using the cosmetic bag trio helps keep me organized inside the backpack.
If I am carrying a lunch or books for school, most of the time this bag is not going to be big enough. I then carry the double zip backpack and slip this purse into it, as there is enough capacity for everything, and I'm still only commuting with one bag on my shoulders.

Best Purse Backpack
I have all the VB backpacks between my girls, my Mom, and me. The latest version I bought, the BackPack tote (I do NOT recommend that one because of the design problems), does not compare. I have this backpack, it is six years old, and it still goes everywhere. I have also given it to friends for birthdays. I have two young girls and this keeps my hands free. It is an absolutely secure purse. I love it.

Love it! Not a "Book" bag though
"Petite Travel Piece" is definitely the correct description. Not to be confused with a book bag. This is my little something extra bag. As a mom I am always carrying something for my boys. This bag is great for when we go to the ball park. I can through some drinks in it, my few essentials, sunscreen, etc. On vacation I tote this to carry all of those extra little things. I Love it.

I Chose This for the Size
I always go out with my 3 YO son and I didn't want to carry 2 small bags for him and for me when we do short walks or outings. So, I bought this. I put my e-reader in the outside pocket as shown on the display. I love the bag but I wish it had 2 zippers for the main compartment. I'm used to backpacks with 2 zippers for easy access when on a one-slingcarrying. One time, my wallet fell off because I didn't fully zip it rom right all the way to the left - and the bag gets full easily as it's not that big. If there were 2 zippers, it would not happen because the opening is on the top.

Great for travelling with little ones
I bought this backpack knowing I would be travelling from NY to CA with my husband and 3-year old son. It was PERFECT. It's small enough to function nicely as a purse but big enough to hold boarding passes, snacks, wallet, phone, tissues, toys, iPad, etc. And the best feature--HANDS FREE! I was able to help my husband maneuver a stroller, car seat, two carry-ons and a toddler through the various airports with relative ease. I especially appreciated the back zipper compartment; having that pocket against my back kept my wallet & boarding passes secure when walking through the airport.
Even when not travelling, this backpack is a perfect purse for mothers of young children who no longer need a diaper bag. It can easily fit all of your purse fill plus a diaper & a small container of wipes. (Or a baggie with extra underwear for those in the potty-training phase.) I found the straps to be very comfortable and easily adjusted to fit me perfectly. I'm so glad I purchased this backpack--it does exactly what I need it to do and with style!

Good Purse Option
I purchased this after seeing someone use this bag as a purse. I am not in school, I do not have any children, and I do not have a busy lifestyle that would require me to be hands-free - but I love this bag as a purse!
It holds a lot more than I would've thought based on prior reviews and the size... With that being said, it isn't too large that it's cumbersome to carry while doing errands or going to work.
The side pockets are small though.... I would prefer if they were a little wider on the top to be able to access easier - but it can fit my phone (iphone 5) and on the other side I usually keep gum or hand lotion.

It DOES Hold an iPad
Not sure why they have the iPad where it is in the photo but it does fit with a cover in the zipper compartment. I would love it even more with a little more depth in that zipped area.
