Vera Bradley's caring culture is most apparent in our generous giving back programs. In fact we have a whole department dedicated to this work! Our company's primary corporate cause is breast cancer research. Vera Bradley is dedicated to eradicating breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.
Since our founders Barbara Bradley Baekgaard and Patricia R. Miller began raising funds in memory of their friend and co-worker Mary Sloan, the Vera Bradley Foundation has contributed more than $25 million toward a future free from breast cancer. All funds support the talented clinicians and researchers working toward a cure in the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Research Laboratories at the Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis. Through the Vera Bradley Foundation, we contribute to a future free from breast cancer and we invite others who share our passion for the cure to join us in the effort. Vera Bradley recognizes and appreciates the valuable role our hometown community has played in our success. That is why we give generously to many non-profit organizations in Northeast Indiana. In addition to helping sustain these important operations, we have also partnered with agencies for major capital improvement projects. Among them are our river greenway, a women's shelter, and two children's zoo expansions.
Reaching beyond our hometown, we match our employees' contributions to local United Way agencies and other non-profits that are important to them nationwide. Our Volunteer Time Off program encourages employees to apply their time and talents at a non-profit mission of their choice on paid company time one day per year. In all, we donate product and dollars to more than 3000 causes annually.
