Amazing travel bag This bag is unbelievable. I have been looking for a travel bag that could carry everything, travel well and of course not look like luggage. I finally had a chance to put this bag to the test this week and it did not disappoint. It held winter clothes for a six day trip including two chunky sweaters, a fleece, running gear, three pairs of shoes, all my toiletries and a hairdryer. All in one bag; I can't remember the last time I was able to do that but it's exactly what I had hoped for from this bag. Some of the reviews caution that the bag is so big it can be heavy and unwieldy when full. My bag was very full. I could still comfortably carry it by the handles over my shoulder but I can see how it could be over-packed. We drove, so I'm not sure how it would have held up as carry-on luggage. Overall though, I'm over the moon for this bag. I still can't believe it held every last bit of clothing, accessories and toiletries I needed for a week-long trip. It makes me giddy to think of what I could fill it with for a quick weekend trip. This bag makes me want to travel more just so I can use it. Love. November 7, 2012
Beautiful & Soo Convenient Carry on!!! I already have 2 Metropolitan bags and of course love them! I love the style of the Metropolitan so much that I want a 3rd one! I personally put them to great use for weekend baseball travel tournaments that are unavoidably "dirty". I need something I can wash and that retains it's beauty! ....and that I can comfortably tote around all weekend to include many snacks, band aids, and all the "Mom" things needed for an All Star athlete! I have felt guilty of enjoying a style so much that I wanted one in every color! I thought that instead of getting a 3rd Metropolitan style that I could achieve variety by purchasing the Grand Traveler! After receiving this Grand Traveler I want to be clear that my comments are not by any means "complaints" but I want to help you by preventing a similar mistake. First of all....I LOVE this large carry on bag (Grand Traveler) that is able to conveniently hold everything but the kitchen sink! Oh my! Even though I'm keeping my Grand Traveler, it doesn't work for my intended purpose. It's just soo BIG and is very capable of holding a week's worth of clothes and many other necessities at the same time! It's way too big to comfortably tote around all of "Mom's" things for the weekend. I love the Grand Traveler for future use like packing for a week and wanting a "carry on" vs checked in luggage. This bag will be soo IDEAL for that purpose! However, for what I need...I better stick with the Metropolitan and probably try the Weekender to gain a little variety. Thank you Vera Bradley for making such pretty and incredibly convenient bags for travel. I receive compliments all the time and I sure enjoy the convenience of being able to carry around something pretty and not fear that I'm destroying it at the same time. (since I can wash it while it retains shape and color) Vera Bradley....you ROCK!!! May 18, 2013
Excellent travel bag (from a plus size reviewer!) Simply stated: I LOVE this bag. I wanted to upgrade from my ho-hum, no-name, shapeless black duffel bag into something sophisticated, vibrant, and functional! I love that this bag has shape and size to it. I started my careful selection process by reading reviews left by others and got some great insight! However, I am a plus sized woman and my clothing typically is made up of twice the fabric of most women's clothing...so finding a bag I could fit my clothing options into for 2-5 days would be a tough standard to meet! This bag did it! I'm a typical over packer too, but I was able to fit my normal 4 full outfits, lounge wear, 3 pairs of shoes, light jacket, plus 2 toiletry bags into this bag and it zipped up perfectly. I would definitely recommend this product to others wanting some girly style for their practical travel gear. Love it! May 13, 2013
Absolutely Huge I bought this bag for a spring break study abroad trip to Italy after learning we were only allowed to bring carry-on luggage for the trip. I debated bringing either my weekender or my large duffle, but decided the duffle didn't have enough pockets, and the weekender was a little too small. Buying this bag was such a great decision. I packed everything for a 7-day trip in this bag. Clothes, extra shoes, makeup, toiletries, and everything else fit perfectly in it. I even had room left over for the purchases I made while I was there. (I did however, end up buying a cheap suitcase abroad to check on my way home, since I had fragile items and didn't want them in a fabric bag). It is unreal how much you can fit in this bag though. I tend to be an overpacker, but I had no issues getting everything I would need for the week into this bag. The one issue I would mention is that, as others have said, it does get heavy when it's all the way full. Lugging this thing nearly fully packed from one side of the Minneapolis airport to the other was not fun. May 12, 2013
Cute and Carry-On Sized! Trying to save money on baggage fees, I bought this bag in Floral Nightingale for my cruise. I did so even though a previous reviewer had said it was not carry-on compliant for Delta, figuring worse comes to worse, I check it. I packed everything I needed for 7 days, including two extra pairs of shoes, and still had a little give! The fully packed bag fit both Delta and AirTran overheads (I just had to put it in bottom first rather than rightside up). My only comment, and perhaps I should have known better, is to make sure when you zip it up, put the zippers all the way to one side - when I had mine placed in the middle and checked it with the cruiseline, it wound up popping open (I'm sure because they were probably none too gentle with it). Other than that, excellent bag, even for longer trips if you are a light packer in general! May 8, 2013
Eeeeeenormous! I own both this bag and a weekender that I use as a workout bag. Just so people get the size idea, I can fully pack my weekender and it fits inside this bag with plenty of room to spare. It's a big bag. I'm an overpacker, and I've not packed this full for an airport trip yet, but have taken it for a car trip. I can see how it could get heavy to carry through the airport. The trolley sleeve could help, but only until you have to check your bigger bag. Pack accordingly, and dont expect the bag to carry itself. For me, size took priority, so I picked a bigger bag. I'm not sure how someone could look at how big this bag is, pack it full and then be surprised that it's heavy. Kind of a duh to me. But even fully packed, I did not have trouble carrying it. Anyway, this is the bag to have if you a. overpack like me or b. really really only want to take one bag. You can easily pack for a 5 or 6 day trip and fit everything you could need. And I'm a woman that can go for a 3 day trip and bring 4 pairs of shoes. Nice slip pockets (4) inside, 2 under the flap, one large, one small (phone, keys, boarding pass, book?) and I haven't seen this mentioned, there are two smaller slip pockets on the back on either side of the trolley sleeve. ID window is a nice touch. Like you'd expect from Vera, the pockets are good sized, well placed, everything is well stitched and strong, and cute patterns. Another winner! April 29, 2013
Perfection! I am a college student and frequently make trips home. For spring break I stayed at a water park for a weekend and used this bag to travel and it worked perfectly! I had two swim suits, two pairs of sweats, a hoodie, two t-shirts, a set of pajamas, and could still manage to fit a pair of flip flops and my make up bag on top. Then my macbook and a magazine on the outside! Needless to say it covered all of my needs and still had room to spare. Great bag, I love it! April 23, 2013
Great for a weekend during winter I debated between the Grand Traveler and the Weekender. I wanted a weekend bag that was cute and functional. The Grand Traveler looked way too big for a weekend bag, but the Weekender looked a little too smal. I just used the Grand Traveler and it was perfect for a winter weekend bag, when you need to pack more. I packed a pair of hiking tennis shoes, a pair of jeans, two long sleeves shirts, a yank top, warm pjs, slippers, undergarments, a sweatshirt, fa leece, toiletries and makeup, my flat iron, and my ipad. This bag was full with a little room to spare. I'm so glad I purchased the bigger bag since I live in a cold climate. I also got tons of compliments in my adorable bag- I purchased this in Plum Crazy, which is currently not available online. April 15, 2013
Holds a Lot ! I have the Grand Traveler in Midnight Blues. It holds so much and it's easy to organize cosmetics and shoes using the interior pockets. You can easily get a week's worth of clothes in it. It's unique and a stand out in any of the patterns ! I do find that it's heavy when packed full. It's also awkward to carry if too much walking is required. It's great that it has a sleeve for fitting over a rolling suitcase but once the suitcase is checked in, I have to carry it around the airport until boarding. It does fit in the overhead nicely. Because it's awkward and heavy to carry, I find that I prefer to use the Grand Traveler for car travel, especially good for trips more than 3 days long. For flights, I love the Weekender. Both bags are great for travel - it just depends on what you need. April 15, 2013
Great for travel I got this bag recently and have already used it for a couple trips where I have easily packed about 5 days worth of clothes/nightclothes, etc with toiletries and plenty of room to spare. The handles are great for easy pick up and go, and the shoulder strap is great for comfortable carrying. I am more than thrilled with this purchase and can't wait to get more reliable & gorgeous Vera products! April 11, 2013
