Turn the Town Pink 2013

Vera Bradley employees, Emily and Renee, help Turn the Town Pink.

Last Friday, our city slowly but surely turned a hopeful shade of pink, as more than 11,000 ribbons were tied to businesses, homes and government buildings around Fort Wayne, Indiana. For 15 years these rosy ribbons have been a symbol of The Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer’s commitment to breast cancer research and finding a cure, each carrying the name of a survivor or someone who battled the disease.

I am not a breast cancer survivor. I am someone who once had breast cancer, the same as I once had measles. My breast cancer is gone (5yrs) and I refuse to define myself by my disease.

I am a breast cancer survivor – now for 6 years. I let people know because it gives them hope that it’s possible to overcome cancer. Thank you all at Vera Bradley for the work you do to collect money for research. :)

Easter Monday 2013, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I have been blessed with more family and friend’s love and support than I could ever imagined. When I see people show support as y’all have, it blesses my heart and encourages me so. I have a ways to go, but thank you for your support.
