A seasonal shift

They say you can never truly understand a person until you walk a mile in their shoes. Adventurously thinking this applies to professional positions as well, and in the spirit of the holiday madness that is the retail world, the Inside Stitch team decided to take on a few hours shadowing Customer Service, as well as a shift at our distribution center, Vera Bradley Stonebridge.

First up, a morning alongside Kathryn, a Customer Service character who won us over instantly with her drawer full of miniature candy canes and ability to craft breathtaking paper snowflakes (the likes of which can be seen dangling over the ladies heads throughout the department).

As the bridge between our customers and our company, it has to be said that these representatives take great pride in their role, a statement solidified when GiftBeat (a monthly trade publication) ranked our Customer Service number 2 in their list of the best.

We listened in and observed as Kathryn looked up orders and updated retailers with a pace of which even a cheetah would admire, always with a cheerful voice and memorable, playful conversation. A favorite quote, “I tell my husband, God wouldn’t let me work here if he didn’t want me to use my discount.”

We left with a great appreciation for the ladies who take care of our customers, always trusting them in their dilemmas, and going above and beyond to find the resolution.

Next, an early Saturday morning in Roanoke, Indiana, for a 3-hour shift at the distribution center. Our task? Folding boxes for outgoing E-Commerce holiday orders.

Within the first 15 minutes, we learned that the different sizes, designated also by different colors, vary greatly in their folding degree of difficulty. The smaller the container, the easier it was to maneuver. Three hours, six hands full of paper cuts and a few new friends later, we had completed our first official shift at the warehouse. And we were ready for some lunch!

Members of the Direct Sales department also volunteered man hours at the Stonebridge building; taking supervisor shifts, assisting on the picking line, feeling our pain in the box area. It would seem there’s always something to do and someone to help around here come December. Now, which shoes should we try on next?

    Thanks for sharing! I have had WONDERFUL customer service experiences with Vera Bradley this holiday season. And, I’ve told everyone about it. It’s rare to get great customer service on a phone, especially during the holiday season. It’s also so fun to receive a Vera Bradley order in the mail – it’s wrapped so nicely like a gift! :)

    I think it would be a wonderful thing for you guys to help out over at the Foundation. It would encourage people to volunteer their efforts in their own hometowns, and perhaps you could gain volunteers as well. :) Merry Christmas & Happy New year!!

    When will the tickets go on sale for the April Warehouse sale? Three years ago I had planned on attending (had even purchase my ticket when I was told I had brest cancer so I can’t wait for the sale this year. I know it is taking place April 11th-15th but when can I get my ticket?
